2008 GMC Savana ReviewThe 2008 GMC Savana has been around for more than four decade already and yet still remains one of the best traditional full-size vans around. For 2008, the Savana comes with an upgraded design, impressive new features, and strong powertrains that make it very appealing to large families.

The 2008 Savana full-size van has a standard wheelbase of 135 inches and comes in either half-ton or 1500 configuration or 1-ton or 3500 configuration. It has two trim levels namely the LS and LT. LS models come standard with air-conditioning, an AM/FM stereo and a theft-deterrent system. On the other hand, LT models add an auxiliary rear air-conditioning and heating, power windows and door locks, cloth upholstery, cruise control, a tilt steering wheel and keyless entry. Meanwhile, power driver and front-passenger seats, alloy wheels and an improved audio system with an in-dash six-disc CD changer are also available.

The ‘08 Savana 1500 models are powered by a 5.3-liter V8 producing 301 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, Savana 3500 models use a 6.0-liter V8 generating 323 hp and 373 lb-ft of torque. All 1500 models use a four-speed automatic while 3500 models have a stronger version of this transmission. With regard to towing capacity, 1500 models can tow 6,300 pounds while 3500 can pull up to 7,600 pounds.

The Savana’s interior is simple and practical. All controls are easy to use and within reach of the driver. This vehicle may have 60/40-split driver-side doors and comes standard with 12 seats, with eight- or 15- passenger arrangements. Moreover, it has a newly designed steering wheel, switch gear and instruments made from quality materials.

Safety features including antilock disc brakes, stability control and side curtain airbags for the first three rows are standard in all models. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2008 GMC Savana five stars in frontal-impact crash tests.
