The 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 is an excellent choice for a full-size pickup with its robust frame, comfortable interior, safety equipment and varied body styles and configurations. Redesigned recently, the Sierra boasts of an improved interior made from quality materials, a better steering and suspension components and a new look.
The ‘08 Sierra 1500 is a half-ton full-size pickup available in three body styles namely the standard cab, extended cab and crew cab. Standard cabs may have a standard bed of 6-foot, 6-inch or a long one of 8 feet. On the other hand, extended cabs can have a short 5-foot, 8-inch bed, standard or long beds. Meanwhile, crew cabs have only short beds.
The Sierra 1500 comes in different trim levels. Regular cabs can be in base Work or SLE trims while the extended and crew cabs are likewise available in SLT trim. SL and Denali trims are also included in crew cabs only. Basic features like air-conditioning, a trip computer, OnStar, vinyl seating. A 40/20/40-split front bench seat, a CD/MP3 player with an auxiliary audio jack, satellite radio and a tilt steering wheel are provided in Work trim. The SLE1 adds cruise control, cloth seating with adjustable driver lumbar support, full power accessories, keyless entry, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. However, SLE2 gives you alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, front bucket seats and steering-wheel-mounted audio controls.
SLT trim possesses all the equipment mentioned with additional rain-sensing wipers with heated washer fluid, a Bose audio system with six-disc CD changer, leather seating, remote engine start, dash design with wood or metallic accents, 12-way power, heated front seats and rear audio controls among its features. On the other hand, the Denali trim outranks the rest with its powertrain, on-road-biased suspension tuning, special wheels, exterior design, a heated steering wheel and a turn-by-turn navigation for OnStar.
When it comes to engines, work trucks are powered by a 4.3-liter V6 with 196 hp and 260 pound-feet of torque as standard. SLE trims may have a 4.8-liter V8 generating 295 hp and torque of 305 lb-ft or a 5.3-liter V8 of 315 hp and 338 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the 5.3-liter engine is standard in the SLT trim. The Denali uses a 6.2-liter V8 with 403 hp and 417 lb-ft of torque. All Sierra pickups except the Denali have a four-speed transmission equipped with a to/haul mode. The Denali has a six-speed automatic transmission instead.
Interior features of GMC’s ‘08 Sierra provide superb comfort especially with its fine ergonomics and adequate storage. A satellite radio is now a standard equipment in all trims too.
Safety is guaranteed with antilock brakes, stability control system with roll-mitigating technology, side curtain airbags, and adjustable pedals. The 2008 GMC Sierra earned five stars for protection of front occupants in head-on collisions based on government crash tests.
