2009-porsche-911-targa-4.jpgOne of the last in the 911 line to receive its 2009 facelift, the Targa 4 is still arguably one of Porsches least favourite vehicles, but it’s quickly gaining ground on its cousins. The 2009 Porsche 911 Targa 4 exists predominantly as a result of Porsche wanting to put a brand on its sliding roof technology, but that doesn’t mean it lacks the essential Porsche DNA.

The Targa 4 features a new seven-speed Porsche Doppel Kupplung (PDK) dual-clutch gearbox as well as direct injection technology, which both help to boost performance while saving fuel. The basic 3.6L engine in the Targa 4 creates 345 hp and, when equipped with the PDK fuel consumption unit, this equates to 23.3mpg ñnot bad.

The Targa 4’s bodywork has had a moderate upgrade, allowing it to snugly fit Porsches new LED lighting systems and sporting a slight tightening of the front end design. There are no major fireworks here, but Porsche certainly doesn’t need them to promote its range.

The key feature of the 2009 Porsche 911 Targa 4, its retractable roof section, is constructed from two sheets of high strength glass cushioned with a sheet of transparent plastic. When activated, the entire roof section draws back behind the passenger seats. The feeling of sitting in something stuck between a full convertible and a large sun roof.
