Let’s start with a little history before we take a closer look at the 2009 Cadillac Escalade. The 2007 escalade was named best new American car by Forbes, and Car and Driver magazine noted that if you like your bling on a grand scale, it doesn’t get much grander than this. Certainly a strong legacy, but things have changed drastically in three short years and bling is quickly loosing value against green.

Perhaps most essential is Cadillac’s inclusion of a new Hybrid drive, designed to offset some of the Escalades substantial petrol thirst. It works, to an extent, to ensure that the Escalade remains one of the most efficient SUV’s in its class. The 403-hp 6.2-liter V8 engine has also been modified to run on E85 ethanol-blended fuel, which works, to some extent, to offset the cost of fuelling the Escalade.

The Escalade is available in multiple configurations, including long-wheelbase ESV, and can be configured with a shorter cab and cargo bed as the EXT. Standard models come with the usual collection of safety features and a few Cadillac luxuries, including BOOSE surround sound, Bluetooth connection, and voice controlled GPS.

The 2009 Cadillac Escalade keeps the all important bling that the current build became famous for, but improvements to mileage and fuel help to keep its usage cost competitive. It’s well worth a look, if you are searching for some greener bling in 2009.

Watch out, here comes the 2009 Cadillac SRX Crossover. Cadillac’s entry into the crossover SUV market makes a fair bid for your bucks, but has it got the goods in this highly contested market segment? The coupe answer is, yes. The SUV sized answer is…

Absolutely. The SRX comes in two versions delineated by their engine capacity. The cheaper model sports a V6 putting out 255-hp with a 3.6-liter engine and a 5-speed automatic transmission. The more pricey V8s use a 320-hp 4.6-liter engine and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

In terms of handling, the SRX is surprisingly agile. This is thanks to its spiritual predecessor, the CTS sedan, which informed much of the basic construction. You see, the SRX is really just a CTS wearing a fat suit. This is a surprisingly good thing, actually. It results in CTS like handling while seating 7 and hauling 4250 lb. Perhaps it’s best not to do both at the same time though, eh?

It also comes packed with all the Cadillac safety and entertainment goodies. One thing we would recommend is including the excellent BOOSE surround sound system with your purchase to make your 2009 Cadillac SRX Crossover the finest sounding SUV on the block.

Cadillac is best known for its luxury sedans; behemoths of the road which always get perfect scores in luxury and safety departments but struggle to compete when it comes to power and manoeuvrability. It’s understandable for Cadillac ask why they can’t have a piece of the luxury sport market, and their answer comes as the 2009 Cadillac XLR.

The ‘09 XLR returns to the ring for the sixth year since its inception, to compete with heavyweights like the Mercedes-Benz SL550, Jaguar XK and Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet. Can it beat these herculean models in a straight out engine battle? No, but the XLR’s got more to bring to this fight than pure guts.

As ever, Cadillac has outfitted the XLR with exceptional safety and luxury features: Heated seats and steering wheel, BOSE surround sound, satellite radio, OnStar, Bluetooth connectivity, automatic climate control and a futuristic heads up display to name just a few. It’s also beautifully finished, with high quality fabrics and leather throughout. The XLR wins in the luxury category.

The 4.6-liter V8 and six-speed automatic creates a satisfying 320 hp of thrust, propelling the roadster up to 60mph in just under 6 seconds. While it’s certainly no slouch, the 2009 Cadillac XLR doesn’t eat up the corners like others in its class can, but it’s only mildly underperforming, and it’s easily arguable that the added value of the luxury features make it a good value purchase.

The 2009 Cadillac DTS continues a DTS tradition of luxury drive, but with sporty performance. While the body weight of the DTS is not inconsiderate, the most remarkable thing about Cadillac’s engineering is the surprisingly light and responsive steering. Of course, this isn’t the only thing to get excited about, but it’s a key differentiator from the more considered response of other TS series cars.

As is expected, the DTS includes every bit of safety kit under the sun and then some which you might not have imagined. How about a snow blind alert, which allows you to see when sudden snowfall obscures the road? Suffice to say, Airbags, OnStar assistance, lane departure warning, blind spot alert and myriad other features to numerous to list make the Cadillac DTS one of the safest cars on the road.

The 2009 DTS comes in three versions; the Luxury I, Luxury II and Luxury III. All three use a 4.6-liter V8 engine and 4-speed automatic transmission, but tune-ups result in 275 and 292 bhp respectively. When combined with the large 115.6 inch wheel base and highly responsive and smooth steering the DTS becomes a formidable force on the road.

Cadillac’s 2009 DTS continues the series tradition of super-luxury combined with formidable performance. The inclusion of a wide range of safety equipment seems like a good idea, considering the extremely relaxing ride!

Drivers looking for something new in the 2009 Cadillac STS may be disappointed as its newest version surfs the wave started by its 2008 redesign. The 2008 model added more power, and modernized looks to the STS, placing it firmly contention as a buyer’s luxury large sedan of 2008. The 2009 Cadillac STS builds upon this redesign with more advanced safety features and improved performance.

Among the long list of luxury and safety features are: ABS, traction control, front side airbags, antiskid system and curtain side airbags. If that weren’t enough, extra optional enhancements include blind spot and lane departure warning systems and active steering, which attempts to turn the front wheels into a skid if the back looses traction.

It’s not all about safety though; the interior is faultlessly high quality and comes with a host of luxury features to make journeys fly by. Heated and cooled seats, a touch screen navigation system with voice control, wireless cell phone link, and the crowning achievement: A BOSE 5.1 surround sound system which puts most cinema systems to shame.

The 2009 Cadillac STS also features marginal performance improvements starting with its basic 302 hp at 6,300 rpm and 272 lb-ft at 5,200 rpm (V6) up to the 320 hp at 6,400 rpm and 315 lb-ft at 4,400 (V8). Unfortunately fuel performance is lacking in comparison to many other cars in the class, but that’ll be the least of your cares when you are cruising in such luxury.

Cadillac has made no secret of the fact that their objective with the 2009 Cadillac CTS and CTS-V was to make a sedan ready for a fair fight with the BMW M5. In their race to compete, they have pulled every trick in the book and, fortunately for them, the resulting car is a master class in engineering and design.

The first thing any new driver will notice about the CTS is its power. Cadillac hasn’t taken their foot off the peddle for a moment during this cars construction and it shows in the abundant 3.6 litre direct injection V6, which pushes out a screaming 304 hp.

The Cadillac is somewhat heavier than its BMW rival though, and the lower end engine option; 2.8 that produces 208 bhp, just can’t accelerate the 1775kg bulk of the vehicle at a speed which satisfies. Though performance gets better at higher speeds, the 304 hp option is certainly preferable if you want performance to match the looks.

The 2009 Cadillac CTS is roughly beautiful. By that I mean, it’ll take some getting used to, but once you do its different enough to stand out on the road, but also features enough classical lines to catch the eye of bystanders. Interior finish is excellent, and there are a host of entertainment features, capped off by stunning 300W BOSE 5.1 surround sound system.
